Advantages of i-colloid Au and alloys

i-colloid Au laser-fabricated nanoparticles exhibit a higher affinity for biomolecules than do chemically-synthesized gold nanoparticles, which display surface capping agents (e.g., citrate, tannate, or PVP).  Antibodies, proteins, and peptides are easily conjugated to i-colloid, and this increased ligand surface density has been shown to increase bioassay sensitivity (see our article in Colloids and Surfaces B).

i-colloid AuPt and AuAg alloy nanoparticles display different optical properties from i-colloid Au and therefore come in a wide range of colors.  They display the same bare surface and are perfect for scattering or colorimetric multiplexing applications.

The high purity and surfactant-free particle surface of i-colloid nanoparticles enable precise control of biomolecule surface coverage.  Such controllability allows high coverage for time-sensitive applications like lateral flow immunoassays (Technical Note 06) or sequential conjugation for cellular imaging (Technical Note 07).

IMRA’s i-colloid gold nanoparticle peptide conjugation kit provides an expedient conjugation of peptide with gold nanoparticles. The method takes advantage of the high purity of IMRA’s laser-made gold nanoparticles to enable rapid binding of cysteine-terminated peptide to the chemically-bare gold surface via high affinity gold-thiol bonds. The colloidal stability of the conjugates is ensured by pre-grafting polyethylene glycol (PEG) on the gold surface with precisely controlled partial coverage, leaving ample space for peptide conjugation without affecting peptide performance. This conjugation kit can be used for a wide range of applications such as cell staining and imaging and pharmaceutical peptide screening.

 

i-colloid gold nanoparticle cell imaging kitBlue Cells

IMRA’s i-colloid gold nanoparticle cell imaging kit is designed for cell imaging with dark-field optical microscopy. The gold nanoparticles are conjugated with RGD peptide for cell targeting. Under dark field illumination, gold nanoparticles are up to a million times brighter than organic dyes due to the particles’ large optical scattering cross-section at the plasmon resonance wavelength. A low concentration of gold conjugates on the order of nM is sufficient to produce a sharp image. Gold nanoparticles are also resistant to photo-blinking and photo-bleaching, allowing continuous and extended cell imaging, tracking, and analysis.
